Daniel Ebner: OFF focuses significantly on finding new ideas
The president of the jury of the main competition program of this year's Youth Film Festival Sarajevo (OFF) is Daniel Ebner. He told Klix.ba about the Bosnian cinematography and the festival.
Ebner is the co-founder and director of the Austrian International Short Film Festival Vienna Shorts. For many years he has been a cultural editor and film critic at the Austrian news agency APA. He is a film advisor in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg, co-founder of the Association of Austrian Film Festivals and the Fair Festival Work Now initiative, and also works as a curator of film and art.
He is aware of the fact that the Bosnian film industry is in an unenviable position due to a general lack of funds.
"Yesterday I talked to a colleague who is also on the jury of the Youth Film Festival. She told me that up to three films are produced in this area, which is a very small number. There is a lack of film infrastructure and money. This fact is sad because we remember the old picture "not only BiH cinematography, but also the cinematography of the former Yugoslavia, which has produced exceptional achievements. I also know that there is the Sarajevo School of Documentary Film. The idea of progress exists, but it has not been realized," says Ebner.
"When it comes to making short films, we are always focused on finding talented individuals. I am very interested in studying this region. I think OFF, compared to the Sarajevo Film Festival, is significantly focused on finding new ideas and ways to present stories. young people, ”he says.
