Mohammed Almughanni, director of the Palestinian film “An Orange From Jaffa,” also walked the red carpet at the opening of the 16th Telemach Youth Film Festival Sarajevo. The event was attended by over 200 guests from the worlds of culture, film, and politics. Many domestic and international young film stars, including Zachary Sahdrin from the AppleTV+ series “Little America,” Lazar Dragojević, Hana Zrno, the team from the film “Last Swim,” and Amila Terzimehić, were among those who graced the red carpet.
Festival director Kenan Musić stated that Sarajevo would be the epicenter of cinematic spectacle in the region over the next seven days.
“This year again, we are the largest youth film festival in Southeast Europe, aiming to connect young artists with their audience. The festival focuses on filmmakers, both short and feature-length films that address the challenges facing today’s youth, films whose protagonists strive for a better life. Our mission is to fight for human rights and social solidarity,” said Musić.
Organizers noted that the festival’s opening marks the culmination of year-long efforts.
“The opening ceremony celebrates film and all the work our festival team has done over the past year, including special awards, program introductions, and opening speeches,” said executive director Mirza Čustović.
Actor Zachary Sahdrin, who will receive the award for Best Male Role in the film “Forever,Forever,” expressed his excitement about the festival, mentioning it’s his first time in Sarajevo.
“I’m thrilled about the award; I arrived in Sarajevo two days ago and am looking forward to the festival, films, and program,” said the young actor.
Lazar Dragojević, recipient of the Best Male Role award in a series, emotionally shared how the jury’s decision has impacted him and will inspire his future work.
“This is a wonderful festival; kudos to the organizers for doing such an amazing job. I couldn’t wait to come; I’m excited about the festival,” said Dragojević.
After the opening ceremony, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy films at two festival locations. Starting at 9 PM, screenings included “An Orange from Jaffa” and “Last Swim” at Poli Open Air cinema, and “An Orange from Jaffa” and “Yurt” at Raiffeisen Vils Open Air.
