Faruk Lončarević

BH director

Faruk Lončarević, born in 1975 in Sarajevo, where he attended the Academy of Performing Arts during the siege and graduated from the directing department. He was a selector of the Sarajevo Film Festival, director of the BiH Cinematheque, a director at BHRT, where he directed over 150 hours of various types of programs. He has directed a dozen theater plays and is the author of over 100 theoretical articles on film, both in domestic and foreign publications, as well as the theoretical book “The Long Shot of History”.

Between 2003 and 2005, he studied traditional dance and theater as a postgraduate at ISBI, Bandung.

After returning to BiH, he directed his first feature film, “Mama and Dad”, in 2006, which won the jury prize at the Sarajevo Film Festival, had its international premiere in the official selection of the International Festival in Rotterdam, after which he traveled around Europe and the world and won several awards.

The next feature film is “With Mom” ​​from 2013, which won the CineEurope award at the Sarajevo Film Festival. The film was a candidate for the Oscar for the best film in BiH.

He is producing, directing, and editing his third feature film, Tako da ne ostab ziva, which premiered at the Trieste International Film Festival 2021 (Special Jury Award), Valencia Mediterranean Film Festival 2021 (Paloma del Oro for best film).

He is a member of the European Film Academy.

He is a full professor of film art at the University of Sarajevo – Academy of Performing Arts, where he has been working for 18 years. From the end of 2021, he is also the dean of the Academy.

He participated in a number of projects as an external expert, jury, lecturer, mentor and committee member, including twice at the Sarajevo Cinematography Foundation. He is an external expert for the European agency Eurimages.
